Federal E-Verify Requirement to Begin 9/8/09

The Department of Homeland Security announced that as of September 8 it would implement Executive Order 12989 requiring all federal contractors and subcontractors to use E-Verify to ensure that their employees are legally authorized to work in the United States. This ruling also covers those employers who receive funds through the federal economic stimulus program (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act).

E-Verify Recommended For All Employers

Note:
An employer can access E-Verify online through Social Security after applying for approval and passing a certification exam.
 OR
An employer can access E-Verify online after applying for approval through an approved vendor. No certification exam is then required, because the vendor system creates the alert notices, notification letters, etc.
