Form I-9 & E-Verify
Employment Eligibility Verification

Online Form I-9 and E-Verify
The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) requires that an employee's eligibility to work be verified by use of the Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9. The Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) allows an employer to directly verify Social Security Numbers, Immigration "A," and I-9 numbers through the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The process is online, easy to use, and accurate.

The online Form I-9 & E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification service is sometimes simply referred to as E-Verify or Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.
Why Use Our Online Form I-9 & E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification Service
Our online Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) service is the most accurate and easiest to use method of verifying Social Security Numbers, Immigration "A," and I-9 numbers. Our system:
  • Satisfies the employer's requirement to verify an employee's eligibility to work.
  • Does not require the ponderous testing and certification required when the employer directly accesses the government's system. Automatically checks for errors and generates data entry instructions.
  • Helps identify current employees with mismatched Social Security Numbers through the SSA's Social Security Number Verification System (SSNVS).
  • Helps reduce identity theft.
  • Automatically generates 90, 60, and 30 day alerts in advance of the expiration of an employee's work authorization documents.

What are the Sources for Form I-9 & E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification?
The information entered into the online Form I-9 is provided by the employee. The Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) directly accesses the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

What are the Weaknesses of Form I-9 & E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification?
The Form I-9 and Employment Eligibility Verification search cannot be used for pre-employment screening but must be initiated within three business days after an employee has been hired. The employer is also required to follow specific employee notification, follow-up, and case recording procedures when a tentative non-confirmation of work is received. The Form I-9 and Employment Eligibility Verification search does not provide additional information about the applicant's name variations or addresses (like a traditional Social Security Number Scan) and cannot be used as a research tool when conducting a Comprehensive Background Check.

How Long Does Form I-9 & E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification Take?
An employer must first receive a user name and password before accessing the online Form I-9 and Employment Eligibility Verification Program. This is a one-time process and usually only takes a few days.

Once the setup process is completed, employee work confirmations are instant. However, when a tentative non-confirmation of work is received, the employer is required to follow specific employee notification, follow-up, and case recording procedures. The employee has ten days to contact the appropriate agency to resolve the issue. The employer then runs a follow-up verification request. The specific agency may require more time to complete the process.

What is Our Recommendation for Form I-9 & Employment Eligibility Verification?
Because the Form I-9 and Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) search is the most accurate and easiest to use method of verifying Social Security, Immigration "A," and I-9 numbers available to an employer, we recommend it to all employers.

Note: Be sure to use the current Form I-9. If an employer uses the wrong form, the government considers the employer to be out of compliance. For a link to the current form, see Background Check Laws: Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification (Official Document).
